Interferential Stimulation

Interferential Stimulation is a therapeutic treatment to aid in the relief of pain and the promotion of soft tissue healing. Tiny amounts of electrical impulses are induced into the tissues in the vicinity of the injury. Where these waves intersect below the surface of the skin, a low-frequency stimulation is created. This prompts the body to secrete endorphins and other natural pain killers to help relieve pain.

Most patients find Interferential Electrical Muscle Stimulation to be extremely beneficial and describe the treatment as a massage-like sensation. Ligament sprains, muscle strains and spasms often respond well to this treatment, helping to reduce atrophy and increase blood circulation.

UltraSound Therapy

When people hear the word “ultrasound” they usually think of the ultrasound done on expectant mothers. But this type of ultrasound is a therapeutic procedure that uses sound waves to treat injuries of tissues, muscles or joints. The goal of therapeutic ultrasound is to speed the healing of an area by delivering deep heat to the treated area. This helps in reducing stiffness, swelling, and pain, increases circulations, and promotes pain-free movement. It stimulates healing without causing irritation, speeds up metabolism and improves circulation, breaks up and softens scar tissue and adhesions, and enhances the body’s natural healing process. It can be used for either acute or chronic treatment, of an area, along with treating muscle bruises, scar tissue, arthritis and fibromyalgia.

Laser Therapy

Laser Therapy involves the use of light (a specific wavelength and frequency of coherent light, generated from a low-wattage therapeutic laser) to stimulate the body’s cells and cause them to accelerate the healing process. In our office it is used in treating inflammatory conditions such as arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, and bursitis. The use of laser therapy also accelerates the healing of connective tissue disorders such as sprains, strains and tendonitis, and has proven effective in reducing or managing chronic or acute pain in the neck, thoracic regions or lower back. Lasers have also been used to effectively treat muscle injuries or bruises, and neurological injuries such as herniated or ruptured discs. It’s also commonly used to increase the patient’s range of motion, and to build or increase the strength of damaged muscle tissue. In many cases the use of cold laser therapy has cut rehabilitation time following an injury in half.
